About our Transfer Station

We send all recyclable materials to centers that recycle. They are then reused as energy, such as electricity. We do not send materials to a landfill. Our towns subsidize costs to be able to transfer our waste so that it can be reused, repurposed, and recycled into reusable forms of materials and energy.

Where does it all go?

Garbage:

This is taken to the EcoMaine plant in Portland where it is burned.  The energy created by the burning is used to create electricity.

For more information see the ecomaine website.

Recycling:

All the recycling items, # 2 plastic, glass bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard are taken to the Lincoln county recycling center in Wiscasset.  See this link for more information.

Metal:

The metal bin contents are sold to a scrap metal recycler.

Construction waste:

This is taken to a construction waste dump site.
